La Lomita

Posada La Lomita (a.k.a. La Lomita) is a private eco-retreat center in the cloud forest of Mindo, Ecuador. We welcome you to come and host your next event here with us. Birthday Party? Family Reunion!  Unique Corporate Retreat. Come relax and breathe easy!

Eco-Lodging

We recommend having between 7 and 18 guests; but with 7 Queen beds and 7 full beds we can comfortably accommodate up to 21 people on the property.

Each building at La Lomita is uniquely made, using sustainable building techniques. They are works of art but also instantly make you feel at home.

Being Off-Grid

Posada La Lomita is an off-grid, eco-retreat center. We offer a nature immersion experience like none other. Nestled in the hills above the small town of Mindo, dusk and dawn are concerts of bird song, frog croaks, and the shrills of insects. Each building is designed to let you enjoy the sounds and views of the surrounding jungle while staying warm and comfortable in your bed.

Being Off-Grid

The retreat center runs on solar power. Only the Restaurant and the studio are designed to run larger devices such as computers and projectors. The bedrooms and bathrooms only have enough power to recharge your phones, tablets, and cameras; using things like hairdryers or small blenders for protein shakes will fry the system. Below you’ll find a list of what to and what not to bring.

The Experience

Posada La Lomita (a.k.a. La Lomita) is a private retreat center in the cloud forest of Mindo, Ecuador. Most people visit Mindo for the amazing amount of biodiversity including a staggering variety of hummingbirds and frogs. As such, excursions off the property are highly encouraged. We have a list of our favorite experiences; some of which require a guide and some of which just require a small taxi ride. Excursions and taxis are not included in the price of La Lomita.

Some of our favorites include the butterfly pavilions (one of which is a short walk away), hikes to waterfalls (at least 7 different trails with a total of 21 waterfalls within a short taxi ride), a guided adventure ziplining though the jungle, guided and non-guided birdwatching hikes, a guided nighttime walk to view nocturnal reptiles and birds (great for seeing all the frogs) and a chocolate making tour in the town of Mindo.

At least one staff member is always onsite at La Lomita to ensure the perfect experience. The sauna is wood burning, which our staff will be happy to have ready up to twice a day. The sauna takes about an hour to preheat and lasts more than 4 hours.

Option K1:  your group only uses the restaurant seating area. This is included in the base price. Delivery is easily available from many restaurants. An amazing Italian restaurant is a short walk away with pizza and pasta. The town of Mindo is a twenty minute walk or a quick taxi ride and has many delicious restaurants.

What to bring and what not to bring…

As an eco-retreat center that runs on solar power, there are a few electronic items that you won’t be able to use. Only the Restaurant and the studio are designed to run larger devices such as computers and projectors. The bedrooms and bathrooms only have enough power to recharge your phones, tablets, and cameras. There is not enough power for video games, bathroom electronics like hairdryers or small kitchen appliances like blenders for protein shakes

What to bring:

Posada La Lomita is located in the cloud forests of Ecuador. There are many hikes to beautiful waterfalls, many of which include walking through beautiful creeks and rivers. As such, appropriate footwear is one of the most important things to bring. Consider bringing 2 pairs of comfortable hiking and walking shoes, one pair of crocks or sandals for walking around the property (we prefer close toed), and possibly a pair of house shoes or slippers if you’re that kinda person. 2 pairs of hiking shoes? Being in the cloud forest means things don’t dry out as quickly. Giving a pair of shoes a whole day to dry after a hike is often a good idea even if you didn’t walk through any water. Having a second pair ensures you’ll have dry, clean shoes everyday.

Next, quick dry clothing. We are lucky not to have a ton of mosquitos in our area of Ecuador, but they still exist here as well as other biting bugs. We recommend bringing quick dry clothing that covers your legs and arms. Consider bringing 2 pairs of swimming attire for the same reason as 2 sets of hiking shoes; if you enjoy the pool or sauna, your swimsuit may still be wet the next day.

What NOT to bring:

Posada La Lomita is a solar powered, off-grid, eco-retreat center. Please don’t use any electronic items besides chargers for cameras, phones, and tablets without first consulting with us.
